How to choose a couples app: start with what you want it for
"Couples app" covers very different things: some only show how many days you have been together, some are a private chat room for two, and some are calendars. Below, four common needs come first, then a comparison of four kinds of apps.
What do you want to do most?
| What you want | Where to look first |
|---|---|
| Plan together and know when the other person is free | A general shared calendar or a couple calendar |
| Remember anniversaries and count your days together | A day counter does this; if you also want to plan together, look at couple calendars |
| A private chat room for two, with shared photos | A couple chat app, such as Between |
| One of you on iPhone, the other on Android | An app that is on both platforms |
Four kinds of couples apps compared
| Kind | Examples | Good at | Keep in mind | Platforms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Day counter | Many apps; not listed here | Showing your days together and anniversary countdowns on the home screen | Focused on dates; for planning together you need another tool | Varies by app |
| Couple chat app | Between | Chatting, saving photos and videos, anniversaries, plus a shared calendar | Built around chat; the calendar is one feature among several | iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac |
| General shared calendar | Google Calendar, TimeTree | Full scheduling features, shared with family, friends, or colleagues | Designed for all kinds of groups | Google Calendar: web, Android, iPhone; TimeTree: iPhone, Android |
| Couple calendar | Cupla, Duet | Both partners' plans in one place, plus anniversaries, wishes, to-dos and other things couples use | A place to keep your memories, not a chat app | iPhone, Android |
How Cupla and Duet differ
Both are couple calendars, and both have to-dos, wish lists, anniversary reminders, and home screen widgets. The differences:
- Calendar: in Duet you both write in the same shared calendar, and you can import events from Google Calendar or Apple Calendar
- Days together: Duet counts how many days you have been together and lets you know at 100 days, 200 days, and every full year. Cupla's website and store page do not mention this
- Cost: Cupla's free plan limits how far ahead and back you can see events and to-dos, until you subscribe. Duet is completely free
- Languages: Cupla's app is in 6 languages (English, French, German, Korean, Russian, Spanish); Duet is in 76
Who Duet is for
- Couples who want to keep their memories and bring a little ritual into an app
- Couples who want a shared calendar, shared anniversary countdowns, and a count of their days together
- Couples where one uses an iPhone and the other an Android phone
Who Duet is not for
- If you mainly want a chat room for the two of you: Duet has no chat, and an app like Between suits you better
Competitor details come from each company's website and store pages, checked on 31 October 2026.
